German police unit on patrol

These images show a German police unit, believed to be Polizei-Regiment Bozen, on patrol in the Balkans in the mid-war period. The unit is carrying Italian weapons, such as Carcano rifles and Beretta machine pistols, and personal equipment. Most other ranks and NCOs are wearing standard 31 pattern shelter quarters made of splinter camouflage material in the normal fashion. The officers are wearing privately tailored uniforms made from Italian camouflaged material.

The officer seen leading the patrol in the first picture is carrying a helmet fitted with a cover also made of Italian camouflage material. The second image shows this more clearly. The officer seen supervising the transfer of wounded soldiers in the third picture is wearing a field jacket or smock made of Italian camouflage material.
